An Israeli municipal rabbi (Moshe Elcharar) has suggested that there is a link between the recent devastating earthquake in Morocco and King Muhammed's political statement that Jerusalem should become the capital of future Palestinian state. The devastating earthquake in Morocco happened almost immediately after his statement and killed nearly 3000 people.
However Elcharat said to a colleague who pointed out that the earthquake cannot be attributed to any one cause. Israel and Morocco are closely connected with the signing of the Abraham Accords a few years ago with increases in trade and tourism. However, the Palestinian issue continues to be an issue of contention between Israel and the rest of the Arab World.
The Rabbi explained in his editorial that for religious people it would certainly be a possibility that the cause of the earthquake could be seen as a divine sign over the King's proclamation.
