Africa (Except MENA) American Missionary Couple in Uganda Charged with Torturing 10-Year Old HIV+ Special Needs Child

Nicholas Spencer and Mackenzie Leigh Mathias Spencer, an American couple originally from Spartanburg, SC living in Uganda have been charged with torturing a 10-year-old foster child that was entrusted to their care from a Christian ministry. They were charged with aggravated torture on December 9th and then later with child trafficking. The 10 year old child who was HIV positive attended a special needs school. If convicted they could potentially face the death penalty. They are currently being detained at the Luzira Maximum Security Prison. The couple was refused permission to be released on bail despite claiming they needed to travel home for emergency surgery on her joints and spine that could not be performed in the Uganda prison system.

Our team of investigators established, that the couple kept the victim barefoot, and naked throughout the day, would occasionally make him squat in an awkward position, with his head facing the floor and hands spread out widely, he spent his nights on a wooden platform, without a mattress or beddings and was served cold meals from the fridge. We believe, the victim could have endured more severe acts of torture, away from the camera.

Imagine going all the way to Uganda just to abuse a poor kid that already got dealt a bad hand by being born in Uganda to an HIV positive mother who didn't get treatment while pregnant to avoid passing the virus to her child.
